Council to launch green house rating system

AKARTA: Green Building Council Indonesia expects to set a rating system that could serve as a benchmark for green houses in the city.

“We are going to launch it early next year,” Rana Yusuf Nasir, the council’s director of rating and technology, said over the weekend.

Rana said the rating system will be applicable to private homes. Under the rating system, private homes will be judged based on their use of energy, water and raw materials.

“For example, in the energy category, when 30 percent of the house does not need artificial lighting, it will get two points,” he said.

Rana said the council will publish the rating system on its website for people to access. Council chairperson Naning S. Adiningsih Adiwoso said the publication of the rating system is one of many ways to raise awareness about the benefits of green buildings.

The council said that, in general, a green building can conserve up to 30 percent in energy.

The council had earlier established standards for commercial buildings and has conducted surveys to assess which buildings in the city can be categorised as green.
